Dubrovnik Carnival 2025: A Spectacle of Tradition, Laughter, and Festive Cheer!

19.02.2025

The Dubrovnik Carnival returns in full glory with a festive program full of dance, laughter, and creative costumes!

From February 21 to March 4, the city will come alive with the spirit of tradition and carnival joy.

Carnival has long played a significant role in Dubrovnik’s cultural heritage. It was a time of music, merriment, games, and parades. During the carnival, especially in the Renaissance period, the city flourished—social barriers were broken down, and the streets became the heart of the festivities. For Dubrovnik’s residents, the carnival was a time of leisure, indulgence in food and drink, a reversal of power dynamics, and an opportunity for social commentary. The city’s streets transformed into vibrant stages filled with music, processions, theatrical performances, colorful masks, and lively dances. This unique carnival spirit has endured through the centuries, making the Dubrovnik Carnival one of the most anticipated events of the year.

The rich program includes masked school and kindergarten days on Stradun, spectacular evening parties and concerts, a competition in preparing "šporki makaruli" (a traditional pasta dish), street performances, dance spectacles, and valuable prizes for the best costumes.
