Famous Swedish director in Dubrovnik this summer

The Swedish director, Ruben Östlund, whose films have picked up a whole host of international awards as well as capturing the hearts of cinemagoers, will hold a series of masterclasses on the Dubrovnik island of Lopud as part of this year Ponta Lopud Festival.
After the first two editions of the Ponta Lopud festival, some of the world's greatest film professionals such as Joel Coen, Frances McDormand and Pawel Pawlikowski shared their knowledge and experience with the masterclass participants, this year the multi-award winning Swedish director Ruben Östlund will play the role of master.
"For me, filmmaking is a joint venture, a social gathering, and that's exactly why I enjoy it. The intimate atmosphere offered by Ponta Lopud is a great opportunity to meet colleagues and friends, talk about film work and find inspiration. I'm really looking forward to it!" said Ruben Östlund.
Ruben Östlund’s film "Triangle of Sadness" won the Palme d'Or in Cannes in 2022, and the satire that "exposes roles and classes and metaphorically depicts the end of Western civilization" won four main awards at the European Film Awards - for the best European film, director, actor and screenplay.
The profession's awards do not end there, so Östlund's "Triangle of Sadness" was also nominated for an Oscar in the categories for best film, direction and original screenplay. One of the producers of this film is the co-founder of the Ponta Lopud festival, Mirsad Purivatra.
"I am pleased to announce that one of today's greatest directors, Ruben Östlund, will be a guest of the Ponta Lopud Festival. The Sarajevo Film Festival has followed his career from the very beginning and we enjoyed not only his films, but also the gatherings and conversations he had during his stays in Sarajevo. Mutual respect and passion for film resulted in us starting a collaboration, so that Obala Art Center became one of the producers of his latest, multi-award-winning film, Triangle of Sadness. We are looking forward to the fact that Ruben will share his rich knowledge and experience with young regional authors, in the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere of the Ponta Lopud festival," said Mirsad Purivatra.
The trademark of Östlund's work are long sequences, which he structured and perfected during his studies at the University of Gothenburg, where he met Erik Hemmendorff, with whom he later founded the production company Plattform Produktion.
In addition to winning the Palme d'Or, Östlund's recent work "Triangle of Sadness," which stars Woody Harrelson, opened the 28th Sarajevo Film Festival, and Ruben Östlund was awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film art.
The Ponta Lopud festival, which will be held from June 20 to 24, 2023, will once again invite twenty filmmakers from the region, directors, actors and cinematographers on the threshold of international careers.
