11.07.2023
By raising the Libertas flag along with the "Hymn to Liberty” last night, on July 10th, the 74th Dubrovnik Summer Festival was ceremoniously opened in front of the Church of St. Blaise.
The opening ceremony was directed by Saša Božić, the Assistant Intendant for Drama Program, based on a script co-authored with the actress Nataša Dangubić. Alongside the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Tomislav Fačini, the Libertas Choir, the Dubrovnik Chamber Choir, the Academic Choir Pro Musica from Mostar, and the Blasius Choir, there were fanfare players Slavenko Prizmić, Ivan Kušelj, Antun Puljizević, and Matija Slomović, mandolinists Vicko Dragojević and Marko Šilje, as well as young singers Marijeta Bošković and Andrija Bošković.
The ceremonial opening also involved members of the Festival Drama Ensemble, acting students from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and Split, the Student Theater Lero, the Kolarin Theater Company, the Linđo Folklore Ensemble, and the Lazareti Dance Studio. The grand opening was attended by numerous audience members, distinguished guests in front of the Church of St. Blaise, as well as viewers and listeners of the live broadcast by the Croatian Radio Television.
After the ceremony, the residents of Dubrovnik and city guests enjoyed the traditional fireworks display, which, according to citizens' comments, was spectacular this year.
Over the course of the upcoming 46 festival days, the Festival will offer around 70 drama, music, dance, folklore, and other performances to the local and international audience.
