Dubrovnik Launches Animated Film to Educate Visitors on Proper Conduct in the Historic City Centre

04.06.2023

The City of Dubrovnik, in collaboration with the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, has commissioned the production of an animated film that familiarizes viewers with the rules of conduct for visitors within the historic city centre. The Mayor of Dubrovnik, Mato Franković, emphasized that the goal of this campaign is to educate tourists.

"This animated film is a means of communication with our guests, to inform them about the behaviour we expect from them when they arrive in our city. Our aim is not to penalize them but to simply acquaint them with what constitutes acceptable behaviour within the protected UNESCO heritage site," said Mayor Franković during the film's presentation.

He also informed about the current screenings of the film, such as on Croatia Airlines flights and cruise ships upon arrival at the Port of Gruž, following the Memorandum of Cooperation with CLIA, the leading organization for the cruise industry. The film will also be screened at Dubrovnik Airport and the seaport, as well as on various platforms of the City, municipal companies, and institutions. Negotiations are also underway with Dubrovnik hotels.

The animator Stjepan Milas, who was previously awarded a prestigious recognition at the International Tourism Film Festival ART&TUR for his animated film "Safe Vacation," created during the height of the pandemic, is the author of this film.

Orlando the key figure in new animated Dubrovnik film

The main protagonist of the film is the iconic figure of Orlando, who presents the key messages of the "Respect the City" project in a simple manner: dressing appropriately, refraining from cycling or using electric scooters within the historic city centre, not littering with cigarette butts, keeping dogs on leashes, and more. The film adopts a silent animated format that is universal and easily understandable to a wide audience of all generations.

"The film is part of the communication activities of the 'Respect the City' project, which the Tourist Board promotes worldwide and has been recognized as a completely new and successful approach to sustainable tourism. The chosen format of this film serves as a gentle form of communication that will alert viewers to certain behaviours and prohibitions. Tourist education is currently in vogue worldwide as all tourist cities face similar challenges," said Miro Drašković, the director of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board. He also emphasized that the film will be promoted through all channels of the Croatian Tourist Board worldwide.
